Rediscovering the Examen is a creation of Loyola Press and is based on the popular book by Mark Thibodeaux, SJ "Reimagining the Ignatian Examen," which offers flexible and adaptable versions of the Examen.

What is the Ignatian Examen?

Saint Ignatius of Loyola devised the Examen in the form of a very short prayer that can be prayed at any time. In the Examen, we review the recent past to find God and His blessings in our daily lives. Saint Ignatius said that the Examen should be the most important moment of the day because this moment affects all other moments.

How is the Examen done?

There is a simple five-step routine for the daily Examen that this application guides you through:

1. Savoring the moments where things went well and all the gifts you have received today.
2. Asking the Spirit to guide you as you review your day.
3. Reviewing your day.
4. Repenting any mistakes or failures.
5. Deciding concretely to live well tomorrow.
